Minnesota: Plea in Convention Case

A Texas man pleaded guilty in Federal District Court to three counts of making and possessing a Molotov cocktail during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul in September.

The plea by the man, David McKay, 22, of Austin, ended an investigation that began months before the Republican gathering and was based on evidence provided by an informant working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Another man from Austin, Bradley Crowder, 23, pleaded guilty in January to one count of possessing a Molotov cocktail. A trial ended in a hung jury in February after Mr. McKay testified that the informant, Brandon Darby, influenced him to assemble firebombs.

On Tuesday, however, Mr. McKay told a federal district judge that he would have made bombs without knowing Mr. Darby, said David Anderson, a spokesman for the United States Attorney’s Office. He said Mr. McKay faced a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count.
