"The purpose is to point out the utter failure and futility of war and the suffering that results from it," said David Harris, a march organizer with Veterans For Peace.


Liberty Parade

Organizers at theunconvention.com call it "a full-scale art and music celebration, a march in support of democracy and freedom of expression," to be followed by a concert in Loring Park.

MONDAY

Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War

"We see ourselves in a role of organizing a mass family-friendly demonstration where people can express their anger at the war and the Republican agenda," Kelly said.

TUESDAY

Ripple Effect

12:30-7 p.m.; Minnesota Capitol; theunconvention.com; 7,000 to 10,000 people expected

Organizers said "people will gather at the Minnesota State Capitol Mall to engage in trainings, education, community building, music and art in the name of positive social and environmental change."


March for Our Lives

4 p.m.; Mears Park to the Xcel Energy Center; economichumanrights.org; 20,000 people expected

The Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign is sponsoring the march "to bring attention to poor and homeless families across the country, and question the motives of administrations that value war over meeting human needs," Poor People's representative Peter Cooper said.

THURSDAY

No Peace for the War-Makers

4 p.m.; Minnesota Capitol to the Xcel Energy Center; antiwarcommittee.org

Organized by the Anti-War Committee, the march is a way for people to "stand up to John McCain on the day he is declared the official Republican candidate for the presidency," according to press materials.


Peace Island Picnic

1 to 8 p.m., Harriet Island, St. Paul; theunconvention.com/ projects/peace-island-picnic

According to organizers — headed by FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley — this daylong event will be "a nonpartisan family-oriented event. Following four days of marches, art and dramatic presentations and other 'UnConventional' expressions throughout the Twin Cities when national attention is on the Republican National Convention, We the People celebrate peace. We also eat! Free picnic!"

THROUGHOUT

Direct actions against the RNC Nornc.org

The anarchist RNC Welcoming Committee has said it will facilitate actions to shut down the convention and wants "to make sure that this time the fear-mongers will be met with their own biggest fear: people mobilized, organized, and taking the future back into their own hands." Blockades of roads and bridges, as well as roving groups of people swarming, seizing and staying in downtown, are planned.
