John Slavin was charged with a misdemeanor Presence at an Unlawful Assembly in 2008. The charges were dismissed in November of that year. He filed Notice of Intent to Sue with the City of St. Paul and was subsequently charged with Riot in the 3rd Degree, Obstruction of the Legal Process and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon or Substance -- all at the misdemeanor level.
This is the last CRASS case as things now stand. The only remaining defendants from the RNC protests that we know of are the RNC 8.
There will be Pre-trial hearings for the RNC 8 on May 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and (the following week) May 13th and 14th. They will be all-day hearings starting at 9 AM and ending around 4 PM with breaks for lunch. The purpose of the hearings is to deal with motions like what evidence will be introduced at trial. Some witnesses will be brought in.
The defendants and the lawyers have to be there all day, but supporters do not. Drop in whenever you are able.
Trial will start on October 25th, 2010. Mark your calendars.
